Central bank of Sri Lanka, 50th Anniversary, Rs. 1000 Silver Proof Coin.
To commemorate its Golden Jubilee the Central Bank of Sri Lanka issued a Rs.1000/= silver coin in the year 2000. This coin is round in shape and minted in silver. The obverse of the coin depicts the Central Bank Building in the centre within a circle with the legal tender value Rs.1000/= in large numerals and in words in Sinhala, Tamil and English. The words 'Central Bank of Sri Lanka' appear in Sinhala at the apex and in Tamil and English along the periphery with three lotus designs in between. The years '1950-2000' appear below the words Central Bank of Sri Lanka in Sinhala in the centre, The reverse depicts the traditional symbol of the Sun in the centre within a circle.
Around the circle the words 'Sri Lanka' appear in Sinhala, Tamil and English together with the figure '2000' depicting the year of issue. Eight auspicious symbols called 'Astamangala' are depicted along the periphery. The symbols are Sankha (conch), Puma-Kalasa (filled vessel), Srivatsa (representation of Sridevi), Camara (fly-whisk), Ankusa (elephant goad), Matsya Yugala (pair of fish), Nandyavarta (curvilinear svastika) and Bhadrapitha (auspicious seat).
